Silly Camp Magic - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Jarod Wunneburger | July 13, 2019

We do some real serious stuff at Timberlake. We swim laps around the lake and construct giant fires, have deep conversations around identity and sweat in the sun while we put siding on the new Kitchen. It’s part of the unique ethos of Timberlake: Big Work + Work is Love Made Visible.

Then we have our giant 5-foot inflatable unicorn on our waterfront, standing tall surrounding by an avocado, a pineapple, a flamingo, and parrot floaties. We use pinky power to magically lift our tables during meals. Many council fire skits involve volunteers doing various weird human tricks, usually acting out their favorite comic book or movie.

We are also gearing up for Society 39, a large All-Camp-Game that involves campers running from our waterfront to the upper lodge with treasure pieces and avoiding being captured by Society 39 (counselors). We hype these games up a lot and have already had the upper lodge covered in posters and an evening raid on our waterfront by the Society.

Our costume closet continues to get a ton of use, especially as inspiration for waterfront adventures.

Did you know we have an inflatable whale we have lovingly named Whemmett, who is a brother to Emmett, our waterfront head? He’s currently hanging out on top of the upper lodge.

As we gear up for the final four (Society 39, Banquet, Closing Day, Final Appreciations) we continue to find the little ways to make camp just plain silly. Our incredible counselors bring that energy every day, hoping our kiddos will continue to come back for years to come to be a part of (or make!) the magic.

Camp magic is silly, and it’s real, y’all.
