What Does Conservation Mean to You? - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Kelly Beerman | April 24, 2019

Many of you may recognize my name and notice I have a different job title. It’s the same Kelly from admissions, but I have recently transitioned over to the new position of Conservation Director for both Farm & Wilderness and the Ninevah Foundation. I am extremely excited to bring my forestry and conservation background to F&W.

What I’m most looking forward to in being the first Conservation Director, is building relationships and a shared vision for the future of visiting, enjoying, and learning from the lands and water bodies in our care. I plan on using the F&W values, as a guiding light as we develop the scope of this new position.

  • Simplicity – listening and learning for what is most central in our efforts to responsibly use the natural resources we have available to us.
  • Peacemaking – showing compassion and resolution in maintaining a responsible relationship with nature.
  • Integrity – promoting good stewardship of our lands and waters through truth, strength, and justice.
  • Community – sharing experiences of love for the outdoors by living and working together. I believe community is the key to making conservation efforts successful.
  • Equity – valuing people for what they bring and who they are by providing safe, friendly, and accessible opportunities to the outdoors.
  • Service – working to care for our natural environment and our community within.

Conservation is more than just the wise and responsible use of natural resources, it’s also about cultivating an equitable, welcoming, accessible community that provides outdoor opportunities for all people who wish to experience the gifts that nature has to offer us.

So now, I would like to ask you – what does conservation at F&W mean to you? I would love to hear your thoughts. Please email them to me at kelly@farmandwilderness.org. See ya outside!
