Joyful Hearts - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Megan Chamberlain | July 24, 2018

It’s such a joy to see campers jump into a new camp session. The excitement is shared by campers returning for their sixth year and those here for the very first time.

One of our senior Lodge campers created a “Guide to the First Day” booklet for new families, an undertaking which speaks to the readiness for leadership of many of our 14-year-olds. The guide for new families explained what bells mean, what activities are offered and what moving into a cabin looks like.

On Sunday evening, we ushered 133 campers into dinner where they gathered around bowls of pasta and sauce featuring meat raised at Tamarack Farm. Our Lodge was buzzing with conversations.

The next morning at our breakfast, cabins took turns leading call outs, which could be heard across camp:

Call: Hey Sojourner Truth

Response: Hey what!?

Call: Do the Chicken Dance!

Response: What did you say?

Call: Do the Chicken Dance!

Response: Okay or No thanks! Dance ensues…

A large community means many voices to join in unison all morning. We began today by singing a meal appreciation (grace) called, Begin.

“Begin…begin your day with joyful heart a day ends well that joyful starts.”

The joyous noise continued as we use our voices to talk over the spurts of rain that barely dampened our spirits.
