Living the Dream! - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Tulio Browning | June 29, 2018

Camp is going so well, I keep waiting to wake up to find out this was just a dream!  Yesterday, the rain brought us closer together, and today we are enjoying this lovely sunny day. Campers are smiling, laughing, pitching in, and getting work done. Staff are realizing how good it can feel to looking after a cabin of kids – showing good boundaries and high expectations sets the stage for a relaxed and friendly cabin. Together we have done a lot of camper-orientation around how to get what you need and everyone’s role in living together.

By the end of the day Friday, campers will have gone to every activity area – Work Projects, Barns and Gardens, Outdoor Living Skills, Waterfront, Trips, Arts and Rocks and Ropes. They will have climbed chimneys, sawed and hammered, carved wood and lit fires, jumped into canoes and the lake, and much more.

Trip requests have been made and we can’t wait to hit the trail.  I know some campers have concerns about trips, and some have requested any trip that did not involve hiking, yet those hiking trips consistently provide the breakthroughs that lead to growth and conquering one’s fears.

Our new kitchen has been sending out plenty of delicious food – the homemade bread rolls and English muffins have been a huge hit. Our Head Cook Christian understands kids and prepared a comforting first night meal of pasta (gluten-free and traditional) featuring our homemade tomato sauce and as much or as little meat as they liked. Some are vegan, some are total carnivores – and everybody counts.

Long may this dream last!
