Session Two is Flying By…. - Farm & Wilderness

Halfway checkpoint – Clear! A1 session campers of Alder cabin leave tomorrow and the oldest campers are busy decorating the lodge with panache and flair in Harry Potter style. They filed in to be sorted into a house and lo and behold, they all ended up in “House Alder!”

There have been swim lessons, carving lessons, fire tests and many more of our classic activities for all campers.
At the Farm, a special focus production on the Farm as we are gearing up for our Harvest Meal – a meal of vegetables from our farm accompanying our own meat birds and lamb. Last week’s focus was on dairy production and included a day trip to the nearby Plymouth Cheese Factory.

On Wednesday, two upper Senior Lodgers led a rock climbing trip in Western Massachusetts. On the trip were three counselors and five other campers including one from our youngest cabin, Alder. The trip was planned and led as part of achieving their Tenzig Norgay climbing rating to create a new climbing trip. In the van ride home both camper leaders shared how excited they were to lead the trip in two years when they come back as staff!

No day is routine at Timberlake and we make sure “Anything Is Possible” every day. While the older campers were out on trips, our youngest campers also enjoyed all camp games such as Pokemon Go! Picture “Snorlax” a staff shaving a circle atop of their head, adding big triangle cardboard ears for an incredible effect oddly akin to a cartoon Ben Franklin. Yesterday was “Hulk Day” where the big green guy got angry about lost and found left about and hurled it off the roof and we sang “Paint It Green.”

I see a red door and I want it painted green.

Today was “5th Freedom Day where you can wear anything without being judged and our amazing costume closet has been picked clean of dresses, vests, and more. In Arts, they painted rainbow stripes on our new dock and in Music they have written a new song about getting over homesickness.

Younger campers leave on their trips tomorrow and it was pleasant and easy pack out day today. The big rainstorm this afternoon was much more welcome today than tomorrow. Older campers will prepare our Fair Fire and other projects as we work toward our “Final Four” – Spy Night, Harvest Meal, Banquet, and Fair.

I hope many of you will be able to make the journey for Fair and pick up. See you in a bit more than a week.
