“It's Raining At The BDC During Afternoon Activities" - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Polly Williams | July 19, 2017

Hello, Folks! Second session is under way and we are having a lot of fun and a lot of rain.  At the BDC, we run our program rain or shine. We enjoy the rain because it sparks new creativity among campers and staff alike.

Swim lessons happen in the Barn while other activities happen at each activity area, rain or shine. The staff knows to always have a backup activity in case of rain. It was fun to put on my rainwear and walk around camp to see what was happening. Some of the activities include wet weather fires, a pig spa, van wash, and water color rain painting based off the book, “Magic Puddles.”

This week, the sun has been out and we have had warm, humid weather. Yesterday, our brand new 100-foot water slide was out all day and used by staff and campers. It’s so long that we didn’t even need to use the mattresses at the end.

As we wrap up the Second Session, we are also getting ready to add new staff to help support our 100-plus campers for Session 3. We are excited to bring back Billy, Jeremy, Lucy, Betsy, Tori, and Sabine. Joining them will be CJ and Cameron who were with us during Staff Week.

This summer has been filled with a lot of new things. Our new activity area YES (youth environmental sustainability) is working nicely with Barns and Gardens. My new favorite song is “To Stop the Horse” sung to the tune of “To Stop the Train.” For Interdependence Day, we sang “You are Loved” by Catie Curtis. We are looking forward to the Second Session and welcoming a new group of campers.
