Canoes, Long Swims and Hiking for Questers - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | August 05, 2016

The Questers were in high spirits as they met me at the Mollidgewock State Park dock on Sunday, July 31st; singing songs and cracking jokes. Their trip from Mooselookmeguntic Lake to the Androscoggin River was filled with songs and jokes but also nature and moments of reflection. Glimpses of deer and long, windless days made for perfect canoe weather. On a relatively short paddle day, the group arrived to their campsite early and decided to go for a swim. They ended up swimming a mile-and-a-half! Long swims like these were one of their favorite parts of the trip.

On the rest day, we read, wrote letters home, and ate well! After four days on the water, they were all ready for a day of relaxation and land.
I left the group at Rattle River Trailhead, where the hiking section of their trip begins. The group will be hiking through the White Mountains to Mt. Washington where they will summit the mountain. They plan on covering more than 30 miles over rocky and uneven terrain. On Aug. 3, they hiked seven miles on relatively flat ground, with the trail becoming a bit harder as they ascend. Although it will be difficult, the group is prepared and excited to take on the challenge!
Photos from the canoe section will be up soon! Stay in touch for updates on the trip!
