A Growing Community and Another Naming - Farm & Wilderness

Greetings From Flying Cloud:

Shocking to think that we are already through the first week of the August Session. The full season campers have done a wonderful job of welcoming in the new arrivals. There have been some really great activities like oversized bowdrill, music and dancing, and plenty of crafts. We’ve had a number of campers making antler-handled knives and there’s a craze over spoon carving these days.

We also have already seen six new Flying Clouders named. Those six were gifted some great weather and returned high in spirits from their full day vigil on Salt Ash Mountain. The camper community rallied the next day, and even though we started closer to dark than usual, it was worth it for the great fire they built. One of the hottest we’ve had in a while and well sustained through the night.

Please join me in welcoming our new Flying Clouders:

Meadow Hawk

Chickadee Chorus

Firelit Weaver

Elk Tracks the Sun

Journeying Sun

Dragonfly’s Quest

May they find both strength and challenge in their names.

Next up, Flying Cloud is heading out on our overnight trips. We have a wild list of adventures planned for the coming week. The five trips this session are Survival Skills, Pico to Little Rock Pond Hiking, Umbagog Canoeing, Raquette River Canoeing, and our Mysterious Uber Scouts.

Check back next week for stories and maybe even a few more names.

Until then, I hope some adventure, no matter how small, finds its way into your day.
