A Great Start to the Second Session! - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | July 27, 2015

Time flies when we’re having so much fun! After an amazing first session, staff welcomed some new campers yesterday, and some beautiful weather to go along with it. Yesterday was an energizing afternoon of meeting new faces and playing name games. After dinner, campers got a chance to take in the beauty of Lake Ninevah, take swim tests, relax a little, and eat home-made brownies after dinner.

With full stomachs, the new campers watched funny and informative skits, performed by the returning and full-session campers, which explained the nuances of the three bell and how to use a “kybo.” Then it was off to bed, where campers had their first opportunity to share their voices through the platform of “cabin contracts.” Within this space, campers decide on the values and norms they need in their living space to feel safe. A signature implies that their new cabin mates are collectively going to take good care of each other.

Today, staff really knew it was going to be a good session when ALL campers arrived early to do chores! All the boys from Okemo Cabin were up early washing dishes, and helping set up for a delicious pancake breakfast with Vermont maple syrup. After breakfast, campers trooped up the hill for Silent Meeting. As the sun shone down on the campers, everyone smiled and silently welcomed each other into their new community. Then, we commenced  a trip pack-out day! Campers began meal planning, testing stoves, unfolding tents, and getting excited for their first time out on trail. Last but not least, tonight will include a magical mystery tour of camp, where new and returning campers will get oriented on everything from where the costumes are stored, to where paddles are kept at the waterfront. We can’t wait to see campers off on trail tomorrow; we are so grateful for the chance to spend time with your camper!!
