Glorious Questers! - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | July 17, 2015

The Long Trail Questers were exhilarated and energetic at the resupply today (7/17/2015) near Pico Mountain in Killington. They took a short break, with back packs slipped off and some briefly barefoot, and enjoyed a visit from Rebecca Geary, F&W’s executive director.

The crew is bonding together as they traipse the miles and they learn more about each other, the trail and life beyond the step ahead of them.Everyone was psyched about the fresh provisions at the resupply, including the all-important Nutella, lettuce, blueberries and other fruit.  Trip co-leader, Fallon, said the Long Trail Questers already had been treated to a surprise appearance of — chocolate cake!!

She said the group is strong and trail worthy, and hiking at a good pace. Co-leader Ethan said, except for a few rainy days, they’ve enjoyed gorgeous weather so far.

Everyone is eager to see their family and friends during Visiting Day at Appalachian Gap from noon until 3 p.m. What do they wish for most? Their requests – besides hugs and smiles – are pumpkin pie, donuts and watermelon!!

As the Long Trail Questers continue their journey in the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Classic Questers have begun the hiking section of their summer adventure.

The Classic Questers took a well deserved rest day after the canoeing portion of their trip, which they spent paddling the Raquette River portion of the 700-mile-long Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

During their rest day, the Classic Questers enjoyed supplementing their caloric losses of the previous week – chiefly by indulging in hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and potato chips. Though this was the single rest day of the trip, the Classic Questers took time to help another group of SAM campers begin on their own canoe trip.

This model of leadership is typical of the Adirondack Quester group. Trip leaders Bri and David are impressed with the group’s emerging and developing wilderness skills throughout the first portion of the trip, and are confident about the ensuing hiking portion.

The Adirondack Quester group left for their hiking portion in good spirits, though continuously munching on snacks to lighten their packs before their first steps into the Adirondack Wilderness.
