Adventure Day at Barn Day Camp was filled with riotous fun.
With the sun on their backs and wind blowing gently, the Hawks (ages 9-10) paddled out in five canoes and pulled 47 lbs. of invasive water chestnuts from ponds under the stewardship of the Nature Conservancy in Whitehall, NY. On land, they read the landscape and explored words written in cloud formations.
The Deer (ages 5-6) pretended they were deer and ate some lettuce from the BDC garden to assist with their transformation. Once achieved, they fashioned some antlers and hiked to the top of Deer Leap!
Back at Tamarack Farm, the Butterflies (ages 3-4) played in the vine house and gardens under glorious skies. They were joined by the Turtles (ages 5-6) who plucked potato bugs from the green leaves on growing plants and fed the insects to the chickens. Their hand work helps ensure that the crops growing on the fields will thrive and end up as part of camper’s meals.
The Moose (ages 7-8) clambered into four canoes and ventured out on Woodward Reservoir. They spotted scads of wildlife, including tons of turtles, a loon family, a kingfisher, dragonflies, ducks, geese, one snake and were serenaded by many frogs.
The Beavers (ages 7-8) explored the Indian Brook adventure course. They worked together as a group to master each of the challenges.
There are always adventures at BDC each day, and especially on Adventure Day.
