Tamarack Farm – Summer Has Begun! - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | July 07, 2015

This morning our farmers dove into their first work projects of the summer.  On Thursday and Friday mornings, we spent some time training and orienting campers on everything from waterfront safety rules, how to safely use power tools, to milking cows and how to use our dishwasher.    On Saturday morning we completed our first all- camp work project with the taking down of Penc (a cabin that has held campers at TF for decades.)   All of the Farmers signed up for a work project on Sunday, which they will continue for this entire week.

As I walked around campus this morning, I was filled with joy as I witnessed campers engaging in work that will directly impact our community; groups were:

  • Dismantling the floor of Penc to prepare for building a new one in its place
  • Moving the alpaca and sheep to a new pasture
  • Weeding the garden
  • Planting herbs in our kitchen planters
  • Making plans to build a new guitar rack
  • Preparing lunch in the kitchen

Oh, and it’s not all work; I’ve heard so much laughter since the farmers arrived:

  • During all camp “get to know you” games
  • At our “postum house” (open mic) last night while people shared skits and songs
  • While chatting and catching up on the porch
  • While picking out fun costumes for meals for “fancy Friday”

There’s an amazing group gathered at TF this summer; I’m expecting rich growth and so much FUN!
