Hilltops & Homecomings - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | August 08, 2014

So much has happened since we last checked in with our beloved Questers, both the Classic and Long Trail groups! Let me fill you in with all the news from the trail!

The Classic Questers of the second session joined us – very excited and eager and with lots of goals to accomplish. After spending the evening talking about their joys and fears and a celebration of Axle’s birthday, they headed off on their canoe section on Upper Richardson Lake in Maine.

I caught up with them a few days later, in a rainy resupply where we drove to Sugarloaf Campground in Twin Mountain, NH, to rest, dry out, and rock climb! I was so impressed by how each Quester took a challenging route, and also supported each other on our two days of climbing together.

They then set out on their hiking section, across the Presidential Range, ending with a summit of Mount Washington! I picked them up just yesterday at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center where they were still a glow with their victory! Throughout the long (and I’ll admit SMELLY) car ride, I head all about their solo hike, new trail names, and the beautiful sites.

Today the Classic Questers find themselves doing some service work on Farm & Wilderness Property, helping to clear out saplings from an old orchard. Throughout this work they will begin to debrief and wind down in order to return to SAM Camp tomorrow! We are all so proud of them and eager to see the skit they will perform for the whole camp at our Variety Show!

The Long Trail Questers have returned home to us! It was a dark and rainy night when I joined them at Journey’s End, the last shelter on the Long Trail, quite close to the border with Canada, but the next morning shone brightly as we hiked out, packed up, and hit the road south (with a brief stop at Ben & Jerry’s, of course). The LT Questers were able to welcome home the SAM Camp long trips that day and all were able to share their trip skits in an uproarious night. The Long Trail Questers skit has now been performed at each of the Farm & Wilderness Camps and is a hit! We hope you can all make it to Fair this Saturday to see them perform it on the Main Stage!
