The Final Stretch - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | July 18, 2014

Hello again! The days pass so quickly; our July Session campers are on their way to one of their last nights at Flying Cloud this summer. We did see some rain recently, but fortunately clear forecast means we can sleep out under the stars as a whole camp and close properly.

Since I last wrote, our little village has been moving along well. We’ve been spending almost all of our time finishing up projects and continuing to practice the many skills we’ve learned. Campers have been able to work on tanning both deer and cow skins. We’ve made some custom-handled knives, learned about wild edibles, slept in debris shelters, and of course stalked through the forest.

We’ve also held another Naming Ceremony, bringing the rest of our first session campers through their journeys. Please join me in welcoming the following Flying Clouders:

Tinder & Flame

Willow Holds the Circle

Canopy Zephyr

Cloud Weaver

Raven tends the Valley

Valley Ash

Owl in the Forest

Summits the Falls

Fire in the Village

Firefly’s Path

River’s Quest

Zephyr Shares

and

Chickadee’s Forest

The fire was bright and hot for our small group in this ceremony. The songs were sung loudly and clearly into the night as our Drumkeeper added rhythm and order. As we closed out the night, the weather was in our favor and we were able to bring our sleeping bags out and fall asleep next to the warmth of the wide circle of coals that were still crackling.

We’ve only got a few nights left in this first session and the August session is right around the corner. Please check back next week to hear how July finishes up and August begins.

Be well and much love,
