Mission & Activities
In the early days of F&W, the families who had sons attending Timberlake wanted a similar camp for their daughters, so Indian Brook, a camp for girls, was started in 1941. Over the past 70 years, Indian Brook has developed a very strong program that is uniquely designed for girls ages 9-14.
IB's mission is to provide a fun, educational, diverse, safe and reflective space for girls to explore and develop their own strengths as they pertain to our core values of simple living, community building, and non-competitive experiential learning. IB offers girls a chance to explore the way in which they impact people and their environment. It is time away from the forces within the media and greater society that seek to define them. A summer at Indian Brook is an opportunity for girls to use their voices, uncover their own truths, learn skills and make positive contributions to the community. It's a place where girls can explore the fullness of their identity with the care and guidance of women who are dedicated to providing every camper with safe opportunities for personal growth and success.
Each girl is exposed to activities that will strengthen her body, encourage her creativity, pique her curiosity, and reveal to her many unknown skills and areas of interest. She is encouraged to try new things, challenge herself and take appropriate risks. For some the risks are physical, like swimming in the lake or hiking with a heavy backpack. For others, the risks may be social, like singing alone at a Cocoa House, or taking a stand with a group of friends.
Indian Brook's program areas include:
- Barns & Gardens
- Work Projects
- Creative Arts
- Outdoor Living Skills
- Waterfront
- Adventure and Challenge
