Stories & Testimonials
“Family camp is great because of the following!
- Our family gets to be together in a beautiful, peaceful, wilderness setting.
- Each person finds his own level -- making new friends, deepening previous friendships, singing, playing music, hiking.
- Silent meeting is a fascinating and powerful barometer of the tone and color of the community.
- The food!!
- Folks feel free to joke and be silly without penalty.
- The community of children and adults forms quickly in just a few days.
- Everyone shares in the work.
- Swimming in the lake or canoeing to Floating Island.
- It's another way to be part of and connected to Farm & Wilderness.”
"The thing I love about Family Camp is being a camper as a grown up in the company of my children. It's a perfect mix--new friends, old friends, familiar activities, new activities, music, quiet, good food, stars, water, fragrant air, loving care, laughing. There's a stillness to being there that is so different from our everyday life. It's like magic, if you ask me."
“Our family has many fond memories of Family Camp:
- Our 5-year-old son, Jesse, organizing dodge ball games outside the dining hall during his first year there;
- The teenagers' sleep-over, where very little sleep was had;
- The chance to connect over delicious meals with our kids and then, very soon, the chance to connect with other adults, once our kids preferred not to eat with us but rather at the kids' tables;
- Late-night saunas and cold plunges in the lake;
- Wild people of the alders;
- Contra dancing, where even pre-adolescent boys got out on the floor and had fun;
- Moments of talk, moments of silence, and many moments of community.”
