Organic Farming Education Programs
We all benefit from being outdoors and working with the earth. Farm & Wilderness has farm education programs suitable for every ability and interest level. For our youngest participants, simply meeting and caring for the farm animals is a thrill. To collect eggs from under real live chickens, or to eat a tender carrot freshly pulled from the earth can be a momentous experience for a small child.
Our older youth work hard together building teamwork, companionship, and the sense of being able to accomplish something meaningful. We use tractors as infrequently as possible ~ for ecological, agricultural, and social reasons. Instead, together we work to joyfully accomplish labor-intensive and physically demanding projects.
Adult visitors often come to F&W to participate in Work Weekends, where we prepare, plant, care for, and harvest the gardens. Many parents and F&W alumni come back to F&W to experience the pleasure and satisfaction of communal farm work. The gardens and pastoral setting of F&W can also provide a place for reflection and reconnecting with oneself after long immersion in the busy world.
