Organic Farming

On the farm at Farm & Wilderness we are blending time-honored agricultural practices with progressive methods of organic farming. At F&W, we farm organically, as all people did until around the time of World War II. We employ all common organic practices, such as intensive pasture rotation, composting all farm and kitchen “waste”, and feeding only organically raised feed to our animals. We do not use chemical pesticides or fertilizer. We use a raised bed system in our camp gardens, thereby eliminating soil compaction, making succession planting easy, and making it possible to concentrate our compost towards the crops in the beds. We are also utilizing a portable fencing system that makes rotational grazing simpler to manage, thereby guaranteeing the animals a more healthy diet. You can read more details about our efforts to farm sustainably on our sustainability pages.

We are in the process of increasing our dairy herd to take full advantage of our new state-certified pasteurization facility. We will now be able to supply the freshest organic milk to campers in the summer and school groups during the fall and spring.
