The Fair!
Tuesday, August 10th, 2010
Good Morning,
This morning we all woke up to beautiful clear blue skies, a fresh nip in the air and well rested staff and children. There is something about sleeping in the outdoors when the temperature drops that the body seems to crave, and one that I will miss when I am at home in my bed again.
Camp has been going really well and the campers have many new friends to add to their old. During the day so much is happening around me. The Fair fire is well on its way to being built, leather pouches are being made, trees are being felled and cedar logs are being peeled, axed and made into benches. There is also burning out and carving of spoons, mattocking, slate work, and construction of a roof for the cob oven in the apple orchard. We’re also making needle-felted animals, harvesting crops, doing barn chores, holding camper forums and experiencing laughter, singing, silence …. and really good food.
Some of you have asked when and if parents can come to the Fair. Absolutely! This is when our community as a whole comes together, both new and old. You, too, can share in the program that your children do from day- to-day and exprience how proud they are to show you how to do these activities. I truly hope you can all experience what the Fair has to offer. It truly is like a country fair of old.
The Fair officially begins at noon. You may start parking your cars at Bear Creek (1.5 miles south of F&W), where shuttles will happen beginning as early as 11:00 a.m. Fair rides, concession stands, fair food and swimming all happen from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., then we transition into contra dance and fair fire. Campers will leave at 7:30 p.m. to head back to their camps for closing ceremonies.
The following morning will be pick up day, which begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at noon.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Warmly,
Nicole Sutherland-Maiden
