Administrative Directors
Linda Berryhill, Admissions Director
Linda grew up in the countryside outside Buffalo, NY catching frogs and snakes to scare her mother. Linda attended the University of Copenhagen and graduated with a BA in History from Beloit College. As a young adult, Linda served as a small-pox vaccinator in the Peace Corps in Afghanistan from 1968-1971, where she met and married her husband John. They returned to Vermont and raised two children, Hunter (who also works as a counselor and crew member at F&W) and Marian. Linda began working at F&W in 1991, and has spoken with thousands of parents and children about the truly wonderful summer experience of Farm & Wilderness.
Pieter Bohen, Executive Director
Pieter was a camper at Tamarack Farm, and Timberlake Staff in the 1980s, and he returned to F&W in 2006 as Executive Director. Pieter has extensive experience managing non-profit organizations and programs. His previous experience includes his role as Stewardship Director at Seattle's Cascade Land Conservancy, where he was responsible for launching a $20 million project called Green Seattle Partnership to remove invasive plants and replant trees in all of Seattle’s Parks and open spaces using volunteer labor. Pieter was Programs Director at EarthCorps, an urban conservation corps that trains local and international young adults (18-24) in leadership and environmental restoration skills. Pieter grew up as a Quaker in Philadelphia, graduated from the George School, and from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology. Pieter is married to Corky (whom he met while on staff at F&W in 1986) and has three children, twin girls Spruce and Teale, and their brother Silas - all of whom attend the camps.
Jay Kullman, Resource Director
Jay grew up in the Adirondacks and attended State University of New York at Potsdam in Political Science, with a concentration on environmental studies and racism. For the last eight years he's been a self-employed carpenter, mostly building custom homes. He's also been a rock climbing instructor for 12 years, leading trips for universities and community groups. Before becoming a carpenter he worked in the automotive industry as a manager. We're very excited to have all of Jay's skills here, caring for our many buildings and vehicles! Jay rock and ice climbs, and has travelled around North America and Europe to get to great climbing spots. He also tele-mark skies, mountain bikes, and volunteers on the Whiteface Mountains Gondola Evacuation Team. He lives in Plymouth, VT with his partner Melanie.
Kate O’Neill, Program Director
Kate grew up in New Jersey and went on to Prescott College, where she received her BA in Multi-Cultural Education. With a passion for education, Kate went on to receive her Master’s in Education from Antioch New England in Administration and Supervision with a Principal’s Certification. Kate worked at the Barn Day Camp as the Waterfront Head in 1996, the Assistant Director in 1997-98, and became the F&W Program Director in 2006. In the intervening years, Kate worked as the Education Director at “Farms for City Kids” in Reading, VT. Kate loves to snowboard, cycle and boogie-board, and has three fabulous children (all campers), twin boys Mateo and Sean, and daughter Indi.
D. Kurt Terrell, Chief Development Officer
Kurt grew up a Quaker in Southern Ohio on his family's 250 acre farm, attending his local meeting and spending summers at Camp Celo in North Carolina. Kurt's father and uncle were both Tamarack Farm counselors in the 60s and in recent years his stepchildren Elby and Grace have been at F&W. He graduated from Earlham College majoring in Politics from Earlam College and played on the Men's Volleyball team, coached by F&W alum Jack Bailey. Most recently Kurt was the Director of Annual Giving and Officer of Philanthropy at World Learning in Brattleboro, VT. Before that, of course, he was F&W's Director of Development, and Alumni and Development Staff at Earlham College. He is thrilled to be returning to F&W to work with key stakeholders to secure the philantropic resources necessary to implement F&W's strategic plan. He lives with his wife Eden in Brattleboro, where they enjoy lap swimming, bicycling, and spending quality time with friends in their community.
Albert (Bert) Winans, Chief Financial Officer
Bert was born in Syracuse, NY on Tipperary Hill, where the green traffic light is on the top, not the bottom. His mother was born in County Kerry, Ireland and his father's family came to the US in the 1500s. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in Accounting. Previous to joining F&W he owned his own business, Winans and Associates, and was the VP and CFO of OK Industries International, and spent four years in the US Air Force. When he's not busy with numbers, he enjoys golf, motorcycling, and reading. He serves on the Select Board of Mendon, VT, and is a member of Rotary International and the Southwest Freedom Riders. He lives in Mendon, VT with his wife Anne Griffin, and their dogs: two Bichons Lacey and Trudy, and their Coton de Tulear, Cooper. He has three grown children, Ellen, Carolyn, and Caley.
