School Year Employment

Farm & Wilderness employs staff during the school year to teach farm based  environmental education to schools and other groups, and to maintain and improve F&Ws facilities, farms and forests. These positions are both a job and an opportunity to acquire new skills by working with education and resource staff in the areas of Organic Farming, Maintenance and Carpentry.

Farm Educator Intern and Resource Assistant positions run from early April to early November or from early September to early June.

Farm Educator Intern positions

Farm Educator Interns assist the farm managers in the care of the barns and gardens and help administer program activities such as homesteading, crafting and food preservation within the summer camps and school year programs. Throughout the internship, the Farm Education Crew will learn hands on farm based skills, facilitate farm activities and develop an understanding of community living.  Interns will become strong leaders by developing connections to each other and the land through work, service, and play. Interns will use a beautiful wilderness and farm setting and innovative approaches toward learning, organic farming and environmental education.  This position starts in April and runs through November with the potential for extending employment into December and possibly the winter season. Farm Education Interns receive a stipend of $200 per week plus room and board.

Resource Assistant Positions

The job of the resource assistants, with the supervision of the Resource Director and Year-round Resource Staff, is to help develop and maintain the infrastructure of Farm & Wilderness as an educational foundation.  These employees are stewards of our buildings, grounds and forests. Resource assistants help with the ongoing maintenance and repair of Farm & Wilderness buildings, grounds and equipment. The work includes plumbing, carpentry, and various maintenance repair projects as well as driving (errands). Summer camp positions are available as maintenance staff at one of the six camps. Resource Assistants may also work with campers as work project staff.

Retreat Center positions

The Retreat Center staff host and coordinate logistics to create a memorable retreat experience for our clients. This includes tasks such as set up, meeting and greeting, group orientation, menu planning, cooking and handling any logistical concerns as they arise. We will be hiring Retreat Center Staff starting in late summer 2008.
